#twitterproblems

Twitter. Facebook. Tumblr. Path. Google+.

Enough is enough.

Fights starting and taking place on a social network are incredibly stupid. and I am SO sick and tired of it.  The fact that one tweet that related to nothing can be interpretted as fighting words is idiotic.

I'll be honest, I'm a twitterwhore. I'll subtweet everything, but I'm starting to think I'm just going to delete the whole thing. It's aggravating having people misread tweets and get offended. like no, I wasn't talking about you.
And who cares what anyone else has to say anyway? In under 160 characters or less, it can't be that important anyway. But somehow it manages to step on toes and start battles.

Blogging is okay. No one actually reads blogs or even knows if you have a blog.

But there are four types of people in twitter.
first, the person who complains about every single thing in their life. I'm sorry but you sound pathetic, please see the positive sometimes.
secondly, the person who retweets everything.  come up with your own ideas.
thirdly, this applies to the protagonistr and antagonist. the person who purposefully subtweets to make someone mad. and the person who retailiates too much and causes more problems.
fourthly, the person who only tweets happy things to make the complaining people mad.

Not only are there different types of people, but there are also different perceptions of how much you should tweet in a day.
I follow people who tweet 1 thing every other day, and I follow people who tweet every hour.

I am type 3 and 4 while being a notorious twitterwhore, tweeting maybe ten times a day.
Currently I'm on a twitterfast and taking a week break.

The heart of the matter is -and I cannot stress this enough- ignorance is looked upon with admiration. WHY?  If you don't know something, don't tweet rumors! Most of the time twitter just makes me angry or I learn something about a person's afterschool activities.. (see disgusting problems in the rich suburbs).

I'm done with it. Twitter I must wish you good bye, too much internal stress comes from this social networking. Although I enjoy following celebrities, I don't want people to hear what I really think.

That's what my blog is for.

follow-up

So, I was going to blog about how Thanksgiving is a "mixed-feeling" holiday and how my aunt passed away last year due to an aggressive type of breast cancer, but that seemed like a little too much to swallow.

A lot has been going on lately, and this break came at the perfect time.

1) Night at the Wax Museum Closed
I am thrilled the play is over, not that I didn't love every minute of it, I did. It was just time consuming. Honestly, I was surprised by how well it turned out. It was really a big learning lesson for how to design the musical and I know what NOT to do now! But overall, Drama Club raised around $2,000 for profit. Usually it's only around 700.
You're welcome.

2) Basketball Started (CYO 4 LYFEE)
Not that big of a deal but some exerise is finally getting into my system. Practice once a week (if that) for like 2 hours. And games on Sunday <3 And hahaha shockingly, my team is awesome.
CYO Diocese champions last year, nbd right?

3) Saving Lives at Work
Um so I'm a difference maker. <3 Realized something was weird with the porkchops, called the main kitchen, they told me to temp it: porkchops were at like 100 and they need to be at 135 to eat. It wasn't the chef's fault though, one of the main ovens freaked out so that's why, I don't blame Pritt at all.
Basically, I saved everyone from samonella.

4) Black Friday, Yeah!
I love love love love love Black Friday. Nothing's better than shopping midnight to 6 and then going to work at 3. I am SO glad that I don't work at a clothing store. But I got a lot of my Christmas shopping done! And I got this crepe-sandwich type of thing, it was delicious.
There's nothing climatic about that story.

Here's a cute fall play pic from woodard!

take it down a step

Alright, if any viewers read that last blog, my sincerest apologies go out to you.

It's the opening night of the performance, I'm on nervous break-down mode, and the pressure had me buckling for a minute.

And it was the definition of unprofessional.

I'm embarassed that rant even occured to me, especially because this is just a play. I'm actually overjoyed by this whole experience, because I know the musical is a lot more work.

So just for a simple reminder, please come see the show.
Students have worked really hard to put it all together and it honestly is a very funny show.

NOVEMBER 17,18,19,20

A blast from the past filled with pirates, outlaws, and royalty is entertaining for the whole family. A Strongly Worded Letter to FOX

Hello Mr. George Blue,

I'm sorry I had to email you my concerns. But, since FOX has no other contacts for providing feedback, I'm ranting to you. Although I'm sure you won't even read this. And it probably doesn't relate to your job.

I am extremely angry at this whole "8 day period" I have to wait for my Glee to play.
I'm sure you are well aware, 8 days is more than a week.
This means if I miss one episode, I have to wait until after the NEXT episode has already been aired.
And by that point I have no clue what is going on.

It doesn't make any sense to me why viewers have to wait more than a week, and have to miss both the previous and not understand the current weeks.

And yes, I understand that Dish users have some special advantage.
Well I'd never buy Dish because if you looked into what you're advertising, Dish has the highest customer DISSATISFACTION rates.

And it's not as though the episode is going to be a spoiler alert, PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY SEEN IT. They've already told me what happens, and iTunes sells the music BEFORE the episode even airs. WHY do I have to wait more than one day to watch something that is OLD?

The only reason I'm missing Glee is because I'm a busy high school student. President of drama club, Secretary of the junior class, member of National Honor Society, Cleveland Playhouse College, ushering at Playhouse Square, and an honors student.

And guess what, Tuesday is my tutoring night. SO NO, I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO SIT DOWN ON A TUESDAY TO WATCH GLEE.

I WOULD have time the next day after school before rehearsal. But obviously I'm not watching Glee right now.

Thanks so much,
Katie Melchioris

disgusting problems with the rich suburbs

Okay, this may be a controversial post but it's something that's really been bothering me.
And by "really bothering", I mean it worries me A LOT and is very concerning.

The alcohol usage in Avon Lake is ridiculous.

Honestly, although maybe over the whole country rates are dropping,it's not in our quaint little town.

Maybe it's because I'm an athlete, but seriously, I do not understand why you would do that to your body.
Why would you potentially lower your life expectancy and allow yourself to be susceptible to a major addiction?

I chatted with one of the freshmen about this problem and she told me that in her grade, she knew people who started smoking in third grade, and started drinking in fifth grade.
WOW.
In fifth grade I started drinking pop... (Haha not really, this is just to emphasize my point.)

I'm beginning to feel like I'd rather live in the city where my family is struggling to find food, than these rich suburbs where its "normal" to get trashed everyday.

And the most despicable part of this growing problem is that PARENTS permit their kids to throw parties where the purpose is to get drunk.

I think a part of this problem is all the teenage parents who don't care about their kid's well being, which is devastingly awful. But for responsible parents, how can you raise your kids this way?
And I know students who parents encourage them to drink. WHAT.

Yes, I sound like a mom. And yes, I am a total conservative.
And because of those two facts, I'm worried as hell about our future generations.
So feel free to judge me to the bone, but I know where I stand and what my values are.

And I'm not accusing any particular group. Not specifically the freshmen or seniors or cheerleaders or bandos, not specifically any club or sport athletes in particular. In any variety of club or sport or grade it is easy to point out who's doing what on the weekends.

I'm just stating I'm worried. And it's true.
I'm worried for the kids who drink until alcohol poisoning hits, and I'm worried for the parents who don't even realize it.

But I don't know the solution to this problem, so just be aware.

this 850 word paper will kill me

Right now I am most definitely regretting the topic of "keep the arts in public schools."

Because even though it's a fantastic cause that I support very much, it's impossible after 468.

I should have picked something more awesome,
like Halloween or the Amish.

Oh well, so this is my procastination blog. Because I also have a 40 point math packet to do and study for Biotech. merher merher merher merher.

So this weekend was phenomenal, spent so much time with my absolute favorite people: the cross country runners.

I can't help it, maybe it's bad that after I quit running I'm more part of the team than ever before?

Either way I like it.
Unfortunately Katy Link didn't qualify for States and the guys' teams missed it by two points. Trevor Norris is going to run individually at States which is pretty spiffy I guess.

That's a whole lot of pressure for one person but he really has been doing amazing this year. And the other seniors can't feel toooooooo bad because the team went to States last year.

Something that I had never really done before hanging out with the team every weekend was TP-ING.
I mean I live on Lake Rd, we don't exactly get TP-ed. And the idea never really occurred to me.
They go almost every weekend.

We spent $30 on toilet paper and fruit loops [don't ask] last weekend, and had a WILD night.
Everything from leaving people in Giant Eagle to picking someone up at the pool, (don't worry we knew him), to start a giant war with other TP-ers we came across.

And the boys team is just amazing, all (most) of the guys are so nice and funny. And I may or may not have been hanging out with one guy in specific for the last three weeks. hehehe (;

I've strayed.

The moral of this story is that one should write about interesting, lengthy topics for lenghthy papers and bond with the cross country teams if they want to have a good time.

Days of the Week

In my weekly schedule, I have a general a guideline for what I'm going to wear.

Previously this was know as "Hipster Monday" but there really was no hipster in me. Hot Librarian Monday is a nice change of tempo and requires glasses.

Tuesday- Classy Tuesday.
Classy Tuesday is manadatory with the exception of Rain-Checks.
Skirts, cardigans, nicer shirts, and sweaters are a must.
If it's raining out, it's alright to dress a little more casual.

Wednesday- Hobo Wednesday.
One day of the week when it is completely appropriate to look like the homeless.
Hobo attire is considered to be in all sweatpants and sweatshirts. And they have to be at least one size to big.
But Hobo Wednesday is the most flexible day to dress and there are no real rules.

Thursday- Classy Thursday.
Classy Thurdays is more lenient than Classy Tuesday but the same guidelines apply. Nicer jeans are O.K. on Classy Thursday.
As the seasons change, every other week a dress should be worn on Classy Thurs.

Friday- Do-What-You-Want Friday.
Friday is the wild card day, similar to Monday. Although others participate in Flannel Friday, lez be honest, doesn't work for me. Ftriday is more of a jeans and that-one-green-shirt-that-makes-my- eyes-look-good day.

Saturday and Sunday vary according to the weekend's events.

So this is like the most bizzare, OCD, conceited blog post ever .
It's generally true, but don't call me out if I'm not up to quo.
Monday- Hot Librarian Monday

I challenge you to read, listen, and learn.

I am the definition of a MT nerd.
What is a MT nerd you ask?
         - musical theatre.

No surprises there, but today I'll give a crash course of everything the layman should know.

First, there are a wide variety of shows and genres that are both on Broadway and Off-Broadway.
Off-Broadway shows are very humorous but not quite at the same level as shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Chicago.

A show may start on Broadway but get transferred to Off-Broadway.

I have about 40 musicals on my iPod, (embarrassing right?), so I have the credibility to say these are good shows.

I'll focus on Broadway exclusives but some EXCEPTIONALLY performed shows that performed Off-Broadway to look up would be
[title of show]  this song is hilarious, click on me!
I Love You Because, cute song
Avenue Q everyone is a little bit racist... haha

These shows all contain adult themes so I wouldn't recommend jamming out with your parents around.

I know that sounds crazy? Musical theatre can be as racy as rap music.

A very new and interesting show I'd love to introduce you to is
In the Heights

This musical is entirely rap music. And it's an inspirational story. The main actor, Lin-Manuel Miranda, wrote the first version of In the Heights based on his hometown and went back there to gather up old talented friends to help choreograph and star in it.

February 8, 2007-  January 9, 2011  Heights is now closed.

If a show is "closed" it is no longer running on Broadway or Off-Broadway but may have began touring around the US & in London. Of course, if a show is closed, it might have also run its course and retired from professional stage, this happens mainly if reviews were awful. For instant, Glory Days closed in 2008 after 17 previews and one performance.

Next up we have, Book of Mormon

This is a VERY important show to recognize.

This year's winner of 9 Tony awards and BEST MUSICAL,
The Tony Awards are equivalent of the Oscars or the Olympics, this is hardcore.

This show was produced by the creators of South Park and reeks of crude humor & offensive jokes. Trey Parker and Matt Stone push boundaries like nothing else but it turns out to be absolutely hilarious!
I've been OBSESSED with this show for a few weeks, and wish it wasn't sold out for the next 6 months on B'Way!

This show is COMPLETELY inappropriate but here are two of my favorite songs!

This song is about how homosexuality is a "curable disease." hahaha click on me!

OBSESSED with this singer, Josh Gad, this song is about how he makes up what is in the Bible. VERY SUGGESTIVE LANGUAGE

and here's a video from the 2011 Tony's, hahah that is a HOT picture of Andrew Rannells!

"The controversial musical 'The Book of Mormon' by the creators of 'South Park' is one of the biggest hits Broadway has seen in years, winning over critics and audiences alike," CBS News said.

These are just two of the hundreds of Broadway shows, the two I selected are more humorous and appeal more to a general audience. Not all shows are happy-go-lucky. But all shows will entertain.

[work, yeah.]

It's awkward working in a nursing home sometimes.
Well, a lot of the time...

I work over at Towne Center, and I really enjoy it like 92 percent of the time, but working in a nursing home brings some really uncomfortable moments.

Don't get me wrong, I work in the kitchen. I serve food out of steam trays and give them to the residents. I pour drinks, make grilled cheese, wash dishes, and bus dinning rooms.
 So nothing gross.

~The weirdest issue is old men hitting on me. It's like "no thanks, but you can have some more jello." (;

~ I have to take special classes because I work with long-term people until their time is up.. And it's hard not getting attached to them.

~And my co-workers are quite the group, I'm not sure I'm allowed to say anything about that though outside of work.... not exactly the best influences though. Forgot to mention, I'm the baby. Everyone else is  at least five years older than me except for two girls a year older than me.

~Some residents are just plain creepy, some residents you can't understand, and some just sleep through dinner. One woman doesn't speak English.

But today, someone passed away.

Whenever this happens the whole dinning room eats in a quite hushed tone and you can feel the death all around. Because no one says a word, the dinner is over very early.
You don't really know how to react, what to say or how to feel.
Because you didn't know that person growing up, you knew them in their final hours. They've already lived their lives, dreams and goals achieved or abandoned.

We are so young. Cherish everyone in your life.

Wednesdays Are My Busy Days

Four minutes until the music goes off, let's see if I can get this done.
Normally, I would take time to vent all about homecoming and how cute it was, but no time today.

Wednesdays are tight.

After along day at school, I rush straight to my car at 2:54. From there, I drive home in around two minutes and go change into my work uniform and eat something. and then go to work. (I'll blog about work later.)
So 3:30 to around 7 I serve old folks their food and it's great.

Then off to rehearsel til 9. And then at 9:30 I finally start my homework. fantastic.

I hate to be one of "those people" but yes, I'm complaining.

But, I send out sincerest apologies because all I ever do is complain and freak out about things while blogging.

But honestly, I'm stressing out.

Physics and Pre-calc are awful.
My schedule this year is awful.

I don't understand anything in my science & math classes and seriously don't know what to do. I don't understand what my teachers are "explaining."

NOT because I'm dumb. More because I'm taking smart classes.

And I can't come in early because of early bird, and I don't have 12th period off because I have French. And I can't stay afterschool because I have work or rehearsel. merherrr merherrrr merherrr merherrr

But things that help me de-stress are:
eating full loaves of bread.
running.
taking a shower.
and blogging.

annoyed

I was doing my homework and came across the most AGGRAVATING thing ever.
Here's a screen shot:

So I'm on dictionary.com as you can see.
But you know what's distracting me from finding the origin of measure: ADS.

There are 3 HUGE ADS on the top half of the screen alone.
And no. I do not want a AT&T bundle, but thanks anyway.

Where are we suppose to turn when real hardcopy dictionaries are time consuming and heavy, and online dictionaries are full of ads and websites?

And while I'm on topic of current things that annoy me, here is another nuisance.

Why would you suck up to someone now when you're not going to get anything from it for at least 2 years?
This is something I really do not understand when someone is deliberately going out of their way to doing their teacher-advisor's not-fun-times work, and the reward won't come for two whole years. And I know this person is not doing it just to be nice. Personally, I just find it to be a HUGE waste of time on their behalf and it's just pathetic.

And finally, here is my third rhetoical food-for-thought question.

Why is it that the people who don't know anything insist on saying what they think?

There are a few people right now in Drama Club who have been spreading rumors that the cast list is going up on Saturday...
Umm, I just got off the phone with Mrs. Frank and it's still Sunday morning like we planned.

C'mon people, ignorance is not bliss.

9.15.2011

Ugh.

I'm pretty sure I just had the worst Tuesday in my whole entire life. And this time I'm not being over dramatic. My school day went fine but everything just sucked when I came home.

I'm always the first and only one home. So I always have to make dinner. And Tuesday's planned meal was a sort of beef stew with carrots and potatoes and it sounded really easy. All I had to do was put everything in a pan and then cook it.
Turns out, things are not that easy.

I would like to make a note here that this has never happened to me before so it was not the norm.

Anyway, I reached into the bag of mini potatoes so I could cut them up and instead of feeling the rough potato back, I felt something slimy instead. I carefully pulled the potato out only to instantly drop it on the ground.
maggots.
My potatoes were covered in baby maggots.

I feel like I can generally assume that everyone else would freak out after that too. And trust me, I did. I got super paranoid and left a very interesting voicemail on my mother's phone.

I ran to my dog for comfort and hugged her tight,
when I realized she is COVERED in fleas. This also causes me to freak out.
So I go to the store and buy myself a pair of latex gloves and give Maisy a bath. An hour long bath. Picking all the dead and live (ew ew ew) fleas off of her.

At this point, everything little and black or little and white has got me feeling anxious. OCD kicks in and I felt like I had to bleach my tub (I did) and vacuum every room.
Boy, do I love it when my vacuum disappears when I need it most.

And the worst part was when my dad and brother finally got home at 8 they didn't even care the dog was gleaming white, the bathroom was clean, and I made dinner. In fact I even did the dishes.
This, of course, causes me to burst into tears because I guess my family secretly hates me.

aww.
I take that back, I'm just under appreciated x11.

Thankfully my father apologized and my mom found the hiding vacuum cleaner.

An Awkward Goodbye

Here's to that awkward moment when your "best friend" leaves for college tomorrow and you're not sure how to feel.

There are a lot of definitions of "best friends." Some people will say it's that person you tell everything, or someone who knows everything about you. or the person you always have sleepovers with and trust more than anyone.

My "best friend" had the ability to make me feel absolutely terrible about myself or feel like person of the year. Most often it made me feel awful, but it was worth it, for those rare times when I was the winner... Our friendship always felt like a game. Someone had to win or lose, and the winner takes it all.  Unfortunately he had been playing this game much longer than me, and a casual afternoon could turn into heart ache.

But I knew the schedule, it was a never ending spiral. We would get along great for a three weeks, and then tension would start and we would fight anywhere from three hours to three weeks. After that I would always apologize and there would be an awkward week. Then the cycle repeated itself.
No matter how much we hated each other, I always knew in two weeks we would be closer than ever. Unnecessary drama was just part of everyday.

And right now, it seems like I have the worst friend ever. That's not exactly true, he taught me more than I could ever learn and saw potential in me that no one else noticed. and deep down, sometimes REALLY deep down, he always believed in me. I could turn to him no matter what.

People say that you won't be remembered for what you did, but how you did it.  I won't remember him because of his talent, in fact I often forget how skilled he is, I will remember those shows we went to where we held hands. And those  afternoons where we did nothing but lay on the floor.
Every few months those afternoons would come, and that made our friendship worthwhile.

There were times when I hated him more than anything, but times when I loved him more than anyone. How am I suppose to say goodbye to the boy who inspired my dreams while killing my soul?
Although you will never miss me, somedays I will miss you.

have fun at college.

Blogging time

Hello! I'm Katie Mel, and these are all the random thoughts and opinions I have on different ideas.

But honestly, none of the ideas are random at all. I'm just involved in a variety of activities so one post might not seem to agree with the others but they are all relating to the things I love. For instance, right now I'm listening to Legally Blonde: The Musical soundtrack and planning a CP trip on Labor Day, I just came back from running, and earlier this afternoon I was making posters for the Junior Class car wash. (Which everyone should go to on SEPTEMEBER 10.)

To give you a peek of my background: I'm the newly appointed President of Drama Club, a sister, the Secretary of the Junior Class, a nursing home employee, a student at PlayHouse College, an athlete, and a volunteer.  My favorite color is purple, and if I was a superhero my super power would be shape shifting. I have an adorable little dog named Maisy and a demon cat that no one likes.

And currently I wanted to blog about how happy I am! An hour earlier I was doing AP Lang homework and got an email saying I'm officially president of drama. In my opinion, being a club president as a Junior is pretty impressive so I know I must be doing something right! Plus, that usually leads to being president as a Senior, which will look fantastic on a resume!
Anyone interested in Drama Club should definitely audition for the fall play on Sept. 19th & 20th! (:

That's all for now, kisses,
Katie Mel
